Pathfinder Therapy CIC announces Adaptive Immersive Trauma Therapy Pilot
Pathfinder Therapy CIC is preparing to launch a clinical pilot exploring the safe, ethical and evidence-informed use of immersive technology within trauma psychotherapy and rehabilitation-informed care.
The Pathfinder Adaptive Immersive Trauma Therapy Pilot will use Meta Quest 3S virtual reality headsets and PsyTechVR alongside therapist-led care delivered by appropriately trained practitioners.
The initial programme will explore immersive preparation, grounding, resourcing, bilateral stimulation and carefully selected VR-assisted EMDR applications.
A separate pathway will investigate the feasibility and acceptability of immersive support for amputees experiencing phantom limb pain, phantom limb sensations and psychological distress following limb loss.
This pathway may include virtual limb embodiment, visualised movement and therapeutic support. It will not be presented as a cure or replacement for medical, pain, prosthetic or rehabilitation care.
Pathfinder intends to seek collaboration with Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centres, prosthetic services, veteran organisations and research partners to ensure that the programme is multidisciplinary, accessible and clinically responsible.
The pilot will have a particular focus on:
- Military veterans
- Adults with complex trauma
- Wounded and injured veterans
- Amputees
- People living with chronic pain
- People with reduced mobility or other accessibility needs
Technology will not replace the therapeutic relationship.
Every participant will be assessed individually. Participation will be optional, and practitioners will remain responsible for clinical decision-making, pacing, safety and review.
Pathfinder’s long-term vision is:
To become Europe’s leading clinical centre for adaptive immersive trauma therapy, advancing the safe, ethical and evidence-informed use of immersive technologies for military veterans and adults with complex trauma.
The initial programme will focus on feasibility, safety, accessibility, acceptability and service development.
Further information will be shared as practitioner training, governance arrangements and partnership pathways are completed.
